Get insights on closing the execution gap with Afterburner

What are ideas worth to your business? Ideas generate innovation, right? But what if we argued that ideas are worthless and it’s the execution that really matters.

We’ve all heard the horror stories of costly failed projects, some of which have cost companies millions or billions of dollars. Strategy redirects that have gone wrong. Failed systems and cultural transformation projects that have fallen over in the face of complexity. Think Kodak’s reluctance to embrace digital technology, leading to filing for bankruptcy in 2012; Boeing’s 737 MAX software overhaul that grounded the fleet; British Airways 2008 opening of Terminal 5 that was plagued by baggage handling problems and systems failures. Not to mention hundreds upon thousands of smaller project failures and delays that have all had their own negative impact upon less high-profile organisations.

The fear of failure for big projects, strategy pivots, transformations, and change delivery is very real. But the good news is that the right approach can help you to close the gap between idea and execution for successful execution.

Daniel ‘Fuzz’ Walker, Managing Director (Asia Pacific), Afterburner is joining Cliftons to share an approach that can help your organisation to overcome complexity and achieve performance excellence.

Daniel 'Fuzz' Walker - Afterburner Pilot Shot

Why bring a fighter pilot mindset to your organisation

Daniel ‘Fuzz’ Walker, like the other Afterburner speakers and consultants, is a former fighter pilot. Daniel is a former United States Air Force F-22 Raptor Mission Commander turned keynote speaker and lead consultant with Afterburner. With over 1,300 combined training and combat missions, Daniel brings a wealth of experience, leadership, and tenacity to every engagement. He’s also a graduate of Harvard Law School, focusing on civil rights, international trade and dispute resolution, international taxation, investment funds, emerging technologies, and intellectual property.

So, what does this mean for business?

Now a permanent resident of Australia, Daniel brings a passion for operational excellence, diversity, safety and human performance to help organisations reach for new heights. He combines his frontline military experience with practical business know-how and deep academic knowledge to provide strategic consulting that is helping organisations to move towards continuous improvement.

This includes guiding businesses through the Afterburner approach that takes the skills, processes and frameworks that are used in rapidly changing, challenging military environments and uses them for the Flawless Execution methodology. Combining Purpose, Process and Platform, this model helps clients to combat complexity with a shared planning model that breaks down barriers and accelerates results. It’s an iterative approach to daily operations that brings structure and discipline, as well as clear communication, which ultimately means the difference between success and failure.

As well as using this model in ‘failure isn’t an option’ military environments, Daniel has worked with numerous blue chip clients spanning diverse sectors, industry associations and government organisations to put these processes to the test on a range of projects. This includes Brookfield, John Holland Group, Queensland Trucking Association, Master Builders Association, Multiplex and IHG.
