Cliftons celebrated for commitment to the environment and sustainability

SYDNEY – 21 May 2024 Cliftons Event Solutions has been recognised for its commitment to the environment and sustainability, achieving platinum level accreditation with IACC Green Star Certification.

The certification is assessed across 60 facets, including education, awareness and public declaration; waste management; recycling; reuse; water conservation; purchasing; energy management; air quality; food and beverage; and social responsibility.

“Putting the environment front and centre at our event venues has been a big focus for Cliftons in recent years. This has included introducing policies and systems to reduce our impact across a wide range of our operations, like energy consumption, sustainable sourcing for food and minimising food waste. We are also supporting our clients in limiting their own environmental impact with better options for hybrid and multi-city events to lower carbon emissions from travel. Achieving this certification has been a business-wide effort and it’s rewarding to have everyone’s efforts recognised,” says Vanessa Green, Chief Executive Officer, Cliftons.

Cliftons is only the second Australian IACC member to achieve Green Star Certification, and the first to achieve platinum status, setting a new standard for Cliftons venues across Australia and New Zealand.

IACC’s Code of Sustainability is regularly reviewed to ensure it reflects state-of-the-art best practices. Members are required to update their status of adherence to the Code on an annual basis, with three tiers of participation. Members that achieve 100% of the Code qualify for the platinum tier (only six venues globally); 85% is gold tier and above; and 75% is silver tier.

“Sustainability practices have become essential in today’s meetings and conference industry. As a large producer of waste, conferences, events and venues need to take responsibility for finding sustainable practices to protect our planet. It is great to see an increasing number of meeting planners assess venues against green initiatives as part of a bid,“ says Green.

“Educating the industry and supporting venues and our members, like Cliftons, to deliver against measurable sustainability goals is an important part of what we do. We look forward to continuing to drive industry efforts to reduce negative environmental impacts,” says Mark Cooper, Chief Executive Officer, IACC.
